Mauritius
A Romantic Island Escape
4 Days
Indian Ocean Luxury at Its Finest
View the Escape ↓Where Geography and Hospitality Meet
Mauritius exists at a specific intersection of geography and hospitality that few places in the world replicate: a volcanic island with a barrier reef enclosing a lagoon of extraordinary clarity, French and Creole cuisine refined over three centuries of island cooking, Indian Ocean sunshine present for most of the year, and a luxury hotel industry that has been competing for excellence on this small island since the 1970s.
The result is a density of genuinely world-class resorts — One&Only Le Saint Géran, Four Seasons Anahita, Shangri-La Le Touessrok, Royal Palm Beachcomber — that take the concept of honeymoon seriously. Beyond the resorts, the island holds the Seven Coloured Earth of Chamarel, the underwater optical illusion of Le Morne's sand cascade, the Black River Gorges rainforest, and Île aux Cerfs — a private island in the eastern lagoon that is, by most accounts, the finest beach in the Indian Ocean.
This is four days at an unhurried pace, built around two of Mauritius's finest properties, with the flexibility to remain at one for the full stay or split nights between coasts. It pairs beautifully with Madagascar, 900 kilometres away and connected by direct flight — together, the best Indian Ocean itinerary available.
"A lagoon of extraordinary clarity, and a luxury hotel industry that has been competing for excellence on this small island since the 1970s."

Lagoons, Colour, and Quiet Luxury
A wooded island in the eastern lagoon, surrounded by white sand and accessible only by boat. The water over the reef here is among the clearest in Mauritius — shallow enough to snorkel the coral garden with no more than a mask, the fish density reflecting a well-protected lagoon.
At Chamarel, seven distinct colours of volcanic soil — violet, red, brown, blue, purple, yellow, green — form dunes that have been studied since 1879 without a fully satisfying explanation for why the colours never mix despite centuries of wind and rain.
The UNESCO-listed basalt mountain on the southwestern peninsula, whose underwater optical illusion — a sand cascade at the reef's edge that from above appears to be a waterfall falling into the deep ocean — is one of the most photographed natural phenomena in the Indian Ocean.
The last remaining patch of native Mauritian rainforest — the forest that covered the island before the sugar plantations — holding species found nowhere else, including the Mauritius kestrel (once reduced to four individuals in the wild, now recovered) and the echo parakeet.
A density of genuinely world-class properties — One&Only Le Saint Géran on its own peninsula, the villa-focused Four Seasons Anahita, Shangri-La Le Touessrok with its private island Ilot Mangénie — chosen as a personality match rather than a ranked list.
900 kilometres away and connected by direct flight: Mauritius for beaches, luxury, and the Seven Coloured Earth; Madagascar for wildlife, the Avenue of the Baobabs, and the lemurs. Together, the best Indian Ocean itinerary available.
The Escape
Four unhurried days — lagoon, colour, rainforest, and reef — based at one of the island's finest resorts.
The flight into Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport arrives from most European hubs via direct flight or via Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or Nairobi. The transfer to any east coast resort takes 45–70 minutes. The first afternoon is for the resort: the beach, the pool, a first meal in one of the restaurants, and the specific quality of Indian Ocean light at the close of day.
A morning catamaran or private boat east to Île aux Cerfs — a wooded island in the eastern lagoon surrounded by white sand and accessible only by boat. The water over the reef here is among the clearest in Mauritius. The trip typically includes a stop at the Grand River South East waterfall — a cascade that drops directly into the sea at the river mouth. Lunch on the island: grilled red snapper, octopus salad, freshly cut coconut, Mauritian rum. The afternoon is for the beach.
A full day exploring the southwest — the most geologically and scenically varied part of the island. The drive crosses the central highlands through sugarcane fields, the colonial town of Mahébourg, and the tea plantations of the plateau before descending to Chamarel and its Seven Coloured Earth Geopark, where dunes up to fifteen metres high hold seven colours that never mix. The Black River Gorges National Park holds the last native rainforest and species found nowhere else. Le Morne Brabant — the UNESCO mountain with its underwater sand-cascade illusion — closes the day; the sunset from the Le Morne lagoon beach is the finest on the island.
A slow final morning. Blue Bay Marine Park, on the southeastern coast, is the most protected coral reef system in Mauritius — a glass-bottom boat or snorkelling excursion here in the morning light shows brain coral formations, hawksbill turtles, and reef fish in a density that the open lagoon beaches do not match. Then transfer to the airport for onward departure — or, for guests combining with Madagascar, a short flight west to Antananarivo.

Plan Your EscapeMauritius is a stable, safe, and exceptionally well-organised destination with world-class resort infrastructure — there are no logistical hurdles here, only the question of timing. We recommend October–December or April–June: outside the southern-hemisphere cyclone season (January–March) and in the drier months when humidity is lower and the sea calmer for snorkelling and water sports. Peak season (July–September) brings excellent weather at peak pricing. We handle all transfers, excursions, resort liaison, and honeymoon arrangements, and are glad to build the exact package with you.
